A lot of people have been apologizing lately for stupid behavior. Joe Wilson had to apologize to the President for yelling "Liar" during his speech to the joint session of Congress. Kanye West had to apologize to Taylor Swift after he took away her shining moment at the VMA’s. It goes on and on.
You will never have to apologize for anything if you remember one thing that Jerry Clower once said. Before you do anything ask yourself "Would what I’m about to do make my Mama proud?" If the answer is no than don’t do it! It’s that simple.
I wish I had taken that advice thousands of times in my life. Of course I would never be able to open my mouth on the radio again. Well, the good thing is Moms are full of forgiveness. I will try to follow this rule from now on and see how things go. I bet she’s proud of me right now, and she doesn’t believe a word of it.
9-14-09 Let me start by saying that I am not a huge fan of Taylor Swift’s music. Not because it’s bad. I just can’t relate to the problems of a teenage girl. If she sang about beer bellied, middle aged, balding white guys who expouse their mental greatness everyday on the radio and still can’t get a date I might understand her music better.
I am a fan of the tireless self promoter, successful song writer and great business woman she has become. Taylor is without a doubt a major player not only in Country music but the entire music industry. If you’ve been under a rock or in a tree stand waiting for bow season, you may not know she was being honored Sunday night by MTV. They DO understand teenage girl problems. That’s why the viewers picked her to accept The Best Female Video Award. One person in the audience objected to that pick. Kanye West was so upset that he jumped from his seat and took the mic away from Taylor and said "I’m really happy for you and I’m going to let you finish. I’m sorry but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time." Taylor was stunned and speechless while the crowd began to boo West. The crowd then gave a standing ovation to Taylor who was escorted off the stage. My first thought was I wish he had tried that with the late Lulu Roman (who had her own teenage girl problems) from "Hee Haw". She would have decked him harder than the WWE’s Rick Flair Whoooooooooo!
As he not so politely returned to his seat Mr. West showed real class by giving the booing crowd the finger. During the commercial break Pink walked by him and shook her head before security escorted her away. West then kissed his girlfriend Amber Rose. This was truly a miracle because he had to pull his head out of his rear end first.
At the end of the show Beyonce did win the Video of the Year award and during her acceptance speech invited Taylor to the stage to have her moment. It was a class act to make up for Kanye (pronounced like Conway) West’s lack there of.
What really makes this an awful display is an older established performer took away a shining moment from a young new comer. NO , this is what happened…A much older black bully took the spotlight from a young white girl. If the races were reversed this would have been screamed about! Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have held rallies and made the offending party apologize again and again. Maybe a boycott against the advertisers of MTV. The offender also would have to attend some sort of meeting or conference so he could understand why he was wrong. And with his crying wife by his side would hold a news conference and...well, you know how this ends. I still don’t understand teenage girl problems.
